Craigslist Find

I found a new (to me) set to add to my display collection for the shop- This antique French dining set was found on Craigslist for a steal- at only $350! It is in great condition- it just needs a new coat of paint. As far as paint colors go, I was considering painting it a black and trimming it out in bronze- similar to a secretary desk I ran across on Tracey Porter.

The lady I purchased it from said it was 40 years old. It was her mom's set that they used when she was a child. She was thrilled when I told her I was planning on using it for display- I think she was excited because she knew that she could still have visits with it. (I think she was emotionally attached!)

Craigslist is a great place to find inexpensive pieces that with a little TLC, can be totally re-purposed.

Have a terrific Tuesday!!

Fabric Find

I have been searching for online sources for fabric and ran across lewis & sheron textile co. via Style Court  this morning. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they even offer swatch samples for 2.50$ ea.

The above fabric really caught my eye. Lately I have been really attracted to geometric prints- especially black and white. I was actually considering using this fabric to re-upholster a chair I recently found on Craigslist recently! It was quite the score at only 20 bucks!

Have a great Thursday!!

Shame on me. . .

I know, I know. I am soooo behind on blogging! Things have been so busy around here. I am desperate for life to get back to normal. Whatever that may be.

So, I guess that I should fill y'all in on my new venture! Since November of 2007 I have been working on a business plan. As I mentioned in previous posts, I have dreams of opening my own shop. Well, I am really working hard to make that happen. There is so much involved in opening your own shop- I had NO idea. At the moment, I am in the process of cool finds for my shop.

My hope is to focus on standout pieces for home, clothing, and jewelry with a modern but classic vibe. I want to offer objects that capture the imagination and really just encourage one to discover their creative spirit.

The shop is going to be somewhat of an emporium for found and vintage objects made new again. I also intend on offering a variety of items created by independent designers and artists.

Now comes the hard part- a name. I have been trying to think of a name for what seems like forever! At the moment, the name of choice is Tattered Beauty. But, I am just not quite sure. I like it but, I am just not sure its right. So, if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know! :)

I hope you all have a fabulous week!

Paper Fetish

I have had so much fun perusing Etsy lately. . . I recently ran across EnfinLaVoila's Shoppe. I just adore her work! Her designs are so unique-

Her cards are an excellent gift idea and would also look stunning framed and grouped in a cluster on a wall.

I am back-

Things have been so hectic around here- it seems that illness has struck my family once again. :(

Anyway, I have been very busy working on a special new venture that I am so excited about- I will announce it shortly and actually hope to blog about the planning process in hopes of inspiring others to live their dream. . .

I listed a couple of hair pins on Etsy this week- more will come later so, take a peek. :)

. . . and I promise I will do better about posting.

As many of you know, I love to cook!! It seems that I am a creature of habit and always serve the same vegetables for dinner. Green beans sauteed with garlic, peas with shallots and prosciutto, steamed broccoli, and roasted red potatoes with rosemary. While they are all very good, its easy to get burnt out. So,  I thought I would create a vegetable side dish that was simple and easy to make. Roasted Brussels Sprouts. Yep!
Remember, big girls try new things!!

Roasted Brussels Sprouts
(serves 4)

1 1/2 pounds Brussels Sprouts, ends trimmed and halved
8 small cloves of garlic
2 large shallots peeled and quartered
olive oil
salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Rinse Brussels sprouts, trim the ends, and slice in half. Place brussels sprouts, garlic cloves and shallot quarters  on a baking sheet. Toss with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.

Place the Brussels sprouts in the oven and roast for about 30 to 35 minutes, shaking the baking sheet occasionally, until the Brussels sprouts are nicely browned and fork tender and the garlic cloves and shallots are caramelized.

Serve immediately.
